According to Article 7 of the SUP Plastics Directive (Directive 2019/904 Single Use Plastics), products must bear indications of being made partly or fully of plastic. As of July 3, 2021*, the EU Single Use Plastics Directive requires turtle graphics on beverage cups that contain any amount of plastic. The European Union has included biobased and compostable materials such as PLA in the definition of plastic, so the new rules for all traditional cups.
